Care managers' body launches

A new organisation for registered care managers has been launched. The Association of Care Managers (ACM) is a collaboration of care managers and care professionals dedicated to supporting registered care managers and promoting their professionalism.

Steve Bishop, of the Guide2care.com website, said members have access to a dedicated website where they can download articles, resources, training and staff support documents, and the latest regulatory updates.

"All members will receive a quarterly magazine and a care managers conference is planned for autumn 2009," said Mr Bishop. "Another benefit is the opportunity to access a free advice service on regulation and inspection and employment law and a 24/7 legal helpline."

Mr Bishop said care managers were at ever increasing risk as individuals, so ACM members would have automatic insurance for up to £50,000 for legal defence related to health and safety, the Data Protection Act and civil proceedings against the member for unlawful discrimination.
